Nationally-acclaimed artist Ron Colgrove has over 60 years of experience creating original fine art. His work includes one-of-a-kind pen and ink drawings, as well as breathtaking acrylic and watercolor landscapes. Most of the work centers on picturesque scenery and historic buildings, like his popular line of medieval castle art.

The New York Central Rail Terminal serviced passengers for 50 years and is now on state and national Registers of Historic Places. The NYC 4-6-4 (Hudson Class) No. 5284, one of 275 look-alike locomotives, helped transport almost 100,000 passengers in and out of Buffalo in 1929.

He found the textures and shadow patterns in this abandoned old house to be appealing, so he photographed it in both summer and winter and created this fine pen and ink drawing. Later, he water colored it to produce this fine piece of art.

Schner's Shed

Schner's ShedThis acrylic painting was inspired by a neighbor's family of barns. The neighbor was so proud of all of his red painted barns, he allowed Ron to choose one for a fine art painting. Much to the dismay of the farmer, Ron chose the only unpainted shed. It is one of Ron's earliest works with acrylics. It illustrates the artist's eye for an esoteric approach to the simple world of the farmer.

Snow in the AlpsA lone cabin amidst the French Alps lit beautifully by the vibrant sun, this oil painting reflects all the majesty of these mountains. While traveling throughout Europe, these stark, cold mountains caught the artist's eye. Their beauty and tranquility expressed by reflections of the sun hitting the snow along with the various shadows tells the story of barren beauty only to be matched by the deserted cabin in the foreground.

Wendt Foundation it re-opened in June 1995. Ron produced a felt tip pen and ink drawing of this fabulous landmark. The drawing illustrates the Inn before it was expanded and the way many Northern New Yorkers remember it.

Pen and Ink

Colgrove’s unique pen and ink technique has garnered praise from the art community for years. Using a crow quill flexible dip pen, Colgrove has been able to create distinctive pieces of quill pen art that have amazing depth and detail. Many of his pen and ink works feature medieval castles and cathedrals, including his highly acclaimed collection of four European castles.

All of the pieces in this watercolor gallery were originally drawn using pen and ink and finished with finished with hand watercolor. These pieces featuring ornate architecture exhibit a keen attention to detail.
